Totality is a thin ribbon
The Moon's shadow falls on Earth often. The part of it that blots the Sun out completely is a band a few hundred kilometres across, and it lands on any one place rarely. Here are the 67 tabulated paths of this century on a globe you can spin, drawn at NASA's real width rather than one thickened to be seen — thin almost everywhere, flaring only where the shadow arrives at sunrise and leaves at sunset. Play the century and they light in date order, ending on 12 August 2026: over Greenland, clipping Iceland, out over Spain at sunset.
